AirCheck 121509

Written by jeremy on Tuesday, 15 of December , 2009 at 10:37 am

This week’s AirCheck is all Europe again.

As another year draws to a close, artists all over Europe have released their latest, hopefully CD-sales-inspiring, singles. With all of our time devoted to getting ready to go live on the FM dial, and being out of our studio while it’s remodeled, the past couple weeks things have mounted up, so there’s a ton of new music. As usual this is my worksheet, so not everything will be covered… just artists I needed to remember. The nice part of it is that WordPress has pretty good search capabilities, so as I grab these snippets, more and more of the international artists will be searchable here.

King David, Cruisin’ with Maxine

Written by David Martin on Wednesday, 2 of December , 2009 at 3:20 pm

Ozcat Entertainment was founded in June 2006 by singer-songwriter David Martin and his wife Kathleen. They developed the idea for a non-profit entertainment company dedicated to local popular arts after learning firsthand just how difficult it is for local and indie artists to gain exposure in the industry.

In 2004, David’s single “Anyway” was the only independent hit on the R&R Top-40 indicator chart, quite a feat for a local artist. Even then, he was turned away by every Bay Area radio station he approached. “We don’t break new music,” was the general response from Program and Music Directors.

Hearing those words was disheartening. The couple had put so much time, effort and money into the project only to hear that today’s radio market had no interest in new artists, not even those with proven talent. The Martins decided to reverse the current model and create a company where artists would find encouragement, assistance and local radio airplay. Vallejo, California — a city with a rich entertainment heritage and plenty of local talent– was a perfect setting for such an endeavor.  The rest is history, or will be soon enough.

AirCheck 120101 (Worksheet)

Written by jeremy on Tuesday, 1 of December , 2009 at 2:15 pm

OK, I’ll be honest here… this is more for me than you.  Every week when I prep AirCheck, my Tuesday night world hits show, I go through so many charts and wikis that I often can’t remember where I found info about an artist, or to whom it related.  Creeping CRS.  ;)   So i’m going to try it this way, using the OzBlog and ScribeFire to pull together the info behind my AirCheck show. We’ll see how it works.
